Lay Preachers Level 1

This course meets the requirements of the South England Conference Lay Preachers Certificate. It teaches through seminar presentations and discussions, Online Bible study courses, and time-based preaching assignments. 

The seminar presentations are suitable for all church members and designed to educate participants in a simple and creative manner on the core elements of practical sermon preparation and presentation. 

Participants are required to attend a minimum of 12 hours seminar presentations, complete two online Bible study courses covering the 28 beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to ensure doctrinal harmony, and present one sermon to the course leader as audio for evaluation, and to the church at a regular meeting. 

Course Content

Pre-requisites:

Must be a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing. 

Church Pastor must approve attendance on this course.

Online Assignments:  

Attend and participate in 12 hours of seminar presentations (12 hours)

Course Leader Assignments:

Prepare 1 x 20-minute sermon based on a Bible story approved by course leader (20 hours)

Prepare 1 x 20-minute audio recording for evaluation by course leader (1 hour) 
Feedback from sermon evaluation (1 hour)


Church-based Assignments:  

Prepare and preach 1 x 20-minute sermon at a suitable church meeting, including Divine Service, Prayer meeting, Vespers, can be online (2 hours) 


Personal Assignments:

Complete the Discover online Bible study course (26 hours) click here

Complete the We Believe online Bible study course (28 hours) click here

 

Total course hours: 90 hours

Course Outcomes:

The participant goal is to confidently present a sermon in a clear, understandable, creative, and relatable manner, with a sense of forward motion from introduction, problem, solution, outcome, to conclusion.
